Poets, especially in sonic poetry, often treat words like musical objects. Samuel Beckett used words with unique musical economy to avoid violating silence. In contrast, ChatGPT can produce twelve pages of words in a few moments. The pattern and flow of words is a highly (in)personal characteristic of writers and is one of the most music-like aspects of any language. The compositions in our concert take György Kurtág's revolutionary composition as their centre and draw an impressive and intellectually stimulating arc from the silence of the abyss to the birth of words and the mechanical chatter of historical music automatons.
The MIKAMO Central European Chamber Orchestra was founded in 2007 by critically acclaimed graduates of the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts. The ensemble sees concerts as a total work of art and regards historical music repertoire as an extrapolation of new works from our time. MIKAMO is not only dedicated to living composers and the repertoire of contemporary music, but also promotes artistic continuity in the sense of a Central European musical heritage by regularly performing in major concert halls in Vienna, Bratislava, Budapest and Central Europe in general.
The concert is organised by the Sonus Foundation for the Support of New Music and Contemporary Performing Arts, with the support of the Federal Ministry of Arts, Culture, Civil Service and Sport, the City of Vienna Culture and the Ministry of Culture and Innovation Hungary.
