By Yannick Nézet-Séguin as Piano poet Jean-Philippe Sylvestre is known for his breathtaking technique and great imagination. Both here and internationally, the artist from Sainte-Julie, Quebec, has been frequently honoured with the Virginia Parker Prize, the Canada Council's highest award for the arts, the first prize and the audience prize of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra competition, etc... He has performed on stages around the world: Berlin Philharmonie, Musikverein (Vienna), Salle Gaveau (Paris), Concertgebouw (Amsterdam), Kings Place (London), Palais des Beaux-Arts (Brussels), Salle Oriol Martorell (Barcelona), Teatro Mayor (Colombia), Theatro Municipal and Teatro B32 (Brazil), Récital Hall (Sydney), Symphony House, Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier and Salle Bourgie (Montreal), Glenn Gould Studio and George Weston Hall (Toronto), National Arts Centre (Ottawa), etc...
He has already recorded several CDs in the course of his career. These include the one he recorded as a soloist with the London Symphony Orchestra (Chandos). He has also worked with the conductors Yannick Nézet-Séguin, Jacques Lacombe, Fabien Gabel and Alain Trudel and has given several concerts in China, particularly in Shanghai and Beijing, with great success. He has performed as a soloist with the Orchestre Symphonique de Québec on. Sylvestre maintains a strong connection to Europe, being regularly invited to play concerts in London, Paris and Brussels. The pianist is also passionate about giving masterclasses in London and Paris.
