What lies beneath the surface of sound? The Quartetto Lyskamm embarks on a journey through two centuries of chamber music. While Giulia Lorussos In Superficie
(2008) die bloße Materie des Tons – seine Reibung, Textur und Stille – mikroskopisch untersucht, steht Ernst Kreneks drittes Quartett von 1923 an einem Wendepunkt der Musikgeschichte: Mit brodelnder Energie treibt er die Ausdruckskraft der Spätromantik über ihre Grenzen hinaus und stößt das Tor zur expressiven Moderne weit auf. Den tiefsten Blick in den menschlichen Abgrund erlaubt schließlich Franz Schuberts Der Tod und das Mädchenoffers the deepest glimpse into the human abyss: music in which beauty and the foreboding of death are inextricably intertwined. An evening devoted to the big questions of existence, delivered in the radical intimacy of four voices.
