The erhu is a traditional Chinese musical instrument and is one of the most representative folk stringed instruments in the world. It has a long history dating back to ancient China and has existed for thousands of years. The outer shape of the erhu is slender and elegant, with two strings usually made of horsehair or sheep strings, while the body is made of wood or bamboo. When playing, the musicians use two long bows and apply various techniques such as pulling, bowing and trembling to express different sound colours and emotions.

The erhu is characterised by its unique sound properties, which are soft and profound and can express a variety of emotions such as melancholy, joy and passion. It not only plays an irreplaceable role in traditional Chinese music, but is also widely used and innovated in contemporary music. Many musicians are constantly trying to fuse erhu with other musical styles and create new, interesting works to breathe new life into it.

The erhu and the violin have a certain overlap in tone range. Although the erhu only has two strings, its range is quite wide and can cover the range of the violin. This means that the erhu can play most notes in violin pieces. At the same time, there are similarities in music theory and playing techniques.

As a world music capital, Vienna has rich music resources and a long music tradition, and is an important place for the cultural exchange of music from different parts of the world. We would like to promote traditional Chinese music in this internationally influential city to make more people understand, appreciate and participate in it.

By organising events and cultural exchange activities for traditional Chinese music in Vienna, we strive to promote the exchange and integration between Western and Chinese music in order to contribute to the diversity and prosperity of world music.
