The Capella Calliope chamber orchestra invites you to an exciting concert evening!
An energetic and varied programme with music from America, Israel, Austria and Russia will accompany us throughout the evening.
We are particularly looking forward to the world premiere in Vienna of the 2019 German Philharmonic String Orchestra composed piece Vivid by the renowned Israeli composer Shir-Ran Yinon. To our great pleasure and honour, the composer is part of our concert evening and has agreed to an on-stage talk.
We also have the honour of presenting the world premiere of the 2023 Serenade for String Orchestra by the American composer Luke Acerra with you.
We look forward to seeing you there!
The chamber orchestra Capella Calliope was founded in 2003 by Anke Schittenhelm as part of the International Days of Chamber Music in Raumberg/Austria. The ensemble, consisting of students from the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, is made up of a fixed group of 14 string players who perform their concerts without a conductor.
Depending on the repertoire played, the orchestra is expanded up to a full symphonic line-up. The ensemble strives for tonal beauty as well as colourful and sensual playing, as the name of the ancient Greek muse Calliope is the guiding principle for the musicians. Calliope stands for "vocal beauty" and is also the mother of the patron saint of all musicians, Orpheus.
The Capella Calliope covers a broad repertoire, from baroque concerti grossi to the diverse styles of modern music. For many years there has been a regular collaboration between the Capella Calliope and the Choir of the Graz Boys' Choir.
Cantatas, masses and oratorios from all eras are regularly performed not only in Graz, but also in Vienna, Germany and Hungary. A busy concert schedule takes the young musicians from local music school concerts to invitations to international chamber music festivals.
Organised by Capella Calliope. Admission free: No seat reservations possible, please just come to the Ehrbar Saal a little before the concert starts.
