As a stand-in for "Le nozze di Figaro" at the Vienna State Opera last season, the Russian soprano Maria Nazarova shone with her exquisite portrayal of Susanna. At the Schubertiade Wieden, she will cast a spell over us with her charm as a lieder singer. Together with Alejandro Picó-Leonís, Maria Nazarova will present an exquisite programme entitled "Night and Dreams" with songs by Franz Schubert, Clara Schumann, Sergei Rachmaninov and Richard Strauss.
DIE SCHUBERTIADE WIEDEN is "the new Schubertiade in the heart of Vienna". An art song and chamber music concert series launched in 2021 by Spanish pianist and Viennese by choice Alejandro Picó-Leonís.
The idea was born on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the first documented Schubertiade, which took place in Franz von Schober's salon in 1821.
Franz Schubert therefore has a close connection to Wieden, as he lived here for some time and also died here. After him, Johannes Brahms, Antonín Dvořák, Hugo Wolf, Jean Sibelius and Richard Strauss also lived on Wieden.
Since November 2021, 30 established international artists and rising stars of the Viennese music scene have performed at the Schubertiade Wieden.
The 2023/24 season includes five concerts with artists such as chamber actress Sona MacDonald, state opera soprano Maria Nazarova, baritones Georg Klimbacher, Liviu Holender and Raoul Steffani as well as the Wieden Piano Trio, under the artistic direction of Alejandro Picó-Leonís.
