Guided tour with the operations manager Gerald Schmid
"UHD for Brahms and co."
Starting times: 10:00 am and 11:30 am (duration approx. 1 hour)
UHD for Brahms and Co: In the age of technical reproducibility the work of art loses its aura, feared Walter Benjamin, the aura would rather give way to a star cult; almost ninety years after the formulation of the thesis, one can see the insatiable desire of people to experience the uniqueness of genuine works of art and monuments, although these have also become tangible through the media - perhaps precisely therefore - to the contrary. The Ehrbar Saal is - to be taken literally - a shining example.
The Ehrbar Hall in Palais Ehrbar, built by Josef Weninger in 1876/77 for the piano manufacturer Friedrich Ehrbar, is a hidden acoustic gem and an outstanding example of historicist architectural style and the concert hall in "shoebox format". The hall itself, which occupies the imaginary inner courtyard of the palace, was built in 1877 by Julius Schrittwieser. It was - and is again today - an outstanding venue for artistic encounters.
The Ehrbar Hall has been renovated in accordance with all aspects of heritage protection and one of the most modern sound, lighting and video systems has been installed, which is used for concerts and recordings. It is of great importance for the operation of the hall and the organisation of events - primarily classical concerts. Gerald Schmid, operations manager and responsible for the renovation on behalf of C. Bechstein Wien GmbH, gives a tour of the hall. The hall is of course also open to the public on the occasion of the concerts taking place in it, to the extent that concert events usually allow.
Organised by Ehrbar Saal by C. Bechstein in cooperation with the Federal Monuments Office.
Free admission: no reservations possible, please arrive between 5-30 minutes before the start time of the tour you would like to join.
