Norma Jeane Mortenson Baker.
This is what it says in the baptismal register.
She was born exactly 100 years ago today - on 1 June.
The world knows her as Marilyn Monroe, film star and greatest sex symbol of the 1950s. In countless films, she embodied the Every man's dream.
But it doesn't do her justice to see her only as an actress. She was much more: a model, fashion icon, producer and singer!
She rose to become the most famous and most photographed woman in the world.
A single original picture or a strand of hair, if it can be genuine at all, is now offered for sale on the Internet for up to 30,000 euros. At the height of her life, Monroe could have been almost anything. She knew the Kennedys, Sinatra, the Mafia, the Castros.
To this day, myths surround her untimely death. According to the coroner, she committed suicide with an overdose, but there are many indications that everything could have been completely different.
But her 100th birthday is not the right occasion to speculate about her death. Marilyn Monroe left this earth far too early. Today we celebrate this goddess. Of the zodiac sign Gemini, she has so many complex facets that we must celebrate her personality in several parts in this concert. These include her famous songs, some of which were written in her 20s and 30s, but which she immortalised.
We would also like to pay tribute to her quick wit. When she was accused of not wearing anything when taking photos, she replied "I had the radio on". That is probably a brilliant answer, and at this concert we will also honour some of her quotes musically. She was born 100 years ago. We can't prove it, but M. M. will still be inspiring the world in 100 years' time.
