Carl Philipp Emanuel, Johann Christian, Wilhelm Friedemann and Johann Christoph Friedrich Bach are often overshadowed by their famous father - and yet they were pioneers of a new era and characterised the musical awakening of the 18th century in their very own way. Their music combines the splendour of the Baroque with the fresh elegance of the Classical period, sometimes surprising with bold harmonies, sometimes with subtle nuances and lively expressiveness. Whether the passionate drama of Carl Philipp Emanuel, the elegant clarity of Johann Christian, the original boldness of Wilhelm Friedemann or the poetic warmth of Johann Christoph Friedrich - each composition is a sonorous portrait of a new musical era.
This concert presents an exquisite selection of works by this extraordinarily diverse family of composers.
