The programme spans a century of pianistic creativity and ranges from late romantic and folkloristic styles to post-tonal and experimental approaches. It sheds light on aesthetic shifts and technical innovations and includes recent works by the Vienna-based Mexican composers Jaime Wolfson and Aquiles Lázaro. A particular highlight is the rare opportunity to hear Conlon Nancarrow's prominent work (for a human interpretation) in Vienna: Two Canons for Ursula.
The concert is a co-operation between the Mexican music publisher sur - editores de música contemporánea, the Embassy of Mexico in Austria and the Instituto Cultural de México en Viena. Representatives of the partner institutions will give a short introduction. Free admission: donation requested. Seat reservations are not possible. Admission from 30 minutes before the concert begins.
