The "Sound of Friendship" brings together classical masterpieces of Austrian music with Chinese works that build a bridge between tradition and the present, and representative musicians and music teachers from China meet representatives of the Austrian musical tradition. Together they create a dialogue in the spirit of cultural diversity and mutual respect.
The Chinese side will present works by the composer Long Zhou, who has reworked eight widespread Chinese folk songs into a new musical sound. There will also be the world premiere of a new work by Professor Ye Shen, which combines Eastern philosophy with modern musical language and builds a bridge between tradition and the present.
In addition to the concert 21 September at 11:00 a.m. a public panel discussion on "The influence of Chinese and Viennese music traditions on today's music-making" took place. On the podium: Daniel Froschauer, Chairman of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, and Benjamin Beck, principal violist of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, as well as Li Sheng, Head of the Wind and String Department at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and Shiyuan Li, musicologist at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. The discussion will be moderated by Elisabeth Schwarz, editor-in-chief of Bachtrack. Concertgoers are cordially invited to take part in the discussion free of charge.
