A butterfly-inspired programme about the synergies between humans and nature and between composers. Musician Jean Beers and her colleagues will take you on a journey to discover inner voices full of colourful fantasy, to experience dream images and to find lightness and laughter in these challenging times!
The Nocturne by Lili Boulanger, the renowned colleague and contemporary of Maurice Ravel, transports us to nature - the senses awaken and we embark on a journey of colour through music before celebrating Ravel's birth year with this little gem of chamber music. Lili Boulanger is joined by works by Jean Beers and Camila Frydan, which focus on the creative signature of female composers throughout history.
Rooted in chaos theory, the butterfly effect describes how a tiny change in the initial stages of a system can have huge, non-linear consequences elsewhere over time. The female voice in the history of music has always been this "tiny change" that has nevertheless influenced numerous musicians over generations - and is now ready to spread its butterfly wings.
Very similar mixed feelings are reflected in the Butterfly house duo by Jean Beers, in which the beauty of winged creatures contrasts with our compassion for the tension of being caged in a butterfly house. Similarly, creative women in music have struggled to unfold freely and enjoy the beauty of their own wings.
After a lively and entertaining musical "mixed set" about gay pride in Viennese cabaret, the second half of the concert immerses us in the world of a synaesthetic mind - with a live visual realisation through painting and movement. Sergei Prokofiev concludes the programme with his talent for telling stories about humanity, life and nature.
